The Repairers
of the Breach I
Study Guide and Supplemental Links
Isaiah 58:1not a very pleasant way to begin a new series!
But I believe we are coming under judgment as a ______________, as an ________________, and as a ______________.
Isaiah 58:1-14Richard John Neuhaus, Death on a Friday Afternoon:
"God's ____________ __________ live out the drama and destiny of God himself. It is a _______________ thing to be chosen. It is as though God enters history through his chosen ones." (p 138)Of course, that is not a new idea with Neuhaus:
- Moses articulated the point millennia ago in Deuteronomy 7:_______.
- Peter took the "chosen ones" concept and applied it now to "spiritual Israel" in I Peter 2:________.
- John describes those "chosen ones" in apocalyptic language Revelation 12:_____ and 14:_____.
Mark it wellIsaiah 58 makes it powerfully clear that "it is a fearful thing to be chosen" (Neuhaus):
- To be a people who believe in the Day of Atonement/Judgment's "cleansing of the sanctuary."
- To be a people who believe and revere the Creator's seventh-day Sabbath.
- To be a people who are called by God "My people."
In Isaiah 58, what does God call His chosen ones?
"The ______________ of the ______________ "
Who are the Repairers of the Breach?
Could this new generation be it?
4 of Robert Webber's 24 characteristics of the new millennial generation are pertinent to Isaiah 58:12 (The Younger Evangelicals: Facing the Challenges of the New World p 54):
- Long for __________________
- Committed to the plight of the _________, especially in urban centers
- Attracted to ___________________
- Recognize the road to the ___________ runs through the ___________
And how shall we become the Repairers of the Breach?
In Isaiah 58 God clearly outlines two ways in which His people are to become The Repairers of the Breach:
#1A _____________ of _____________ Religion: Responding to the ________ of Our Community [vv. 6-11]
#2A ______________ of _____________ Worship: Remembering the _____________ of Our Creator [vv 13-14]Is there gospel hope for sinners like you and me?
Isaiah 57:15, 18 declares that God always provides for us what He asks of us (which is the shining truth of Calvary).
6T 126-127
Which means that if it is
revival and reformation that He asks of us
then let it be revival and reformation
that we ask of Him!
